How to go from the airport

Moscow has 3 international airports:

  • Domodedovo(abbreviated as DME). 42 kilometers to the south of the city.
  • Sheremetyevo(SVO). Situated about 30 kilometers to the northeast of the city center.
  • Vnukovo(VKO). Situated about 28 kilometers to the southeast of the center of Moscow.

There are basically 2 popular options for travelling from the airport to the center of the city or the reverse: taxi or train. The taxi is generally the most comfortable option but it is also the most expensive (unless you are splitting it between 3 or 4 people), the train (called Aeroexpress) which is generally the fastest choice but depending on the location of your lodging it can require switching to the Metro.

All international airports in Moscow have a fast train connection to the capital’s city centre. Aeroexpress trains run between Belorussky Rail Terminal and Sheremetyevo airport, Kievsky Rail Terminal and Vnukovo airport, and Paveletsky Rail Terminal and Domodedovo airport. Each rail terminal is connected via the metro circle line. It takes 35-45 minutes to get to the airports from the centre of Moscow.

  • The railway platform, from which Aeroexpress trains depart to the Paveletsky Rail Terminal in Moscow, is opposite exit 3 of the Domodedovo air-rail complex. Follow the signs in the airport to reach the platform from the international flights arrival hall.

  • The ground entrance to the Aeroexpress station is within walking distance of Terminals A, B, and D. Passengers travelling from international Terminal A need to go down to floor zero by lift or escalator to enter the Aeroexpress station. Follow the signs.

  • Passenger air terminals E, D, and F at Sheremetyevo Airport and the Aeroexpress Terminal are connected by pedestrian galleries. Follow the signs.

Transportation between Terminal B and the South Terminal Complex (Terminals D, E, F, and Aeroexpress) is provided by automated trains. Travel time between the stations of Sheremetyevo 1 (new Terminal B) and Sheremetyevo 2 (Terminals D, E, and F) is four minutes, including the waiting time for the next train.
