International laboratory “Radiation methods of diagnostics and radiation technology using ultra-intense laser radiation”

The Laboratory  is found in 2017 in the framework of the LAPLAS Institute research activity. Its main purpose – is to design and develop the experimental laser facility ELF MEPhI for carrying out the experimental research on magneto hydrodynamic phenomena in laser plasma. The Laboratory activity also includes creation and development of diagnostics methods of hydrodynamic processes in plasma, development of equipment for x-ray diagnostics in the experiments in high energy density physics, as well as research on dynamics of processes in plasma with various parameters, mechanisms of generation during the interaction of high-power laser radiation with matter.

The activity is also performed in collaboration and in other experimental laboratories over the world.

Currently, the Laboratory works in the following main research directions:

  • Experimental research on high speed processes in plasma created by laser pulses of petawatt and sub-petawatt power;
  • Research on dense laser plasma under the conditions of domination of radiation excitation channels in application to the inertial fusion technology;
  • Modelling of astrophysical objects and phenomena in laboratory in plasma of kilojoule and megajoule laser pulses;
  • Development of radiation methods for diagnostics of plasma and intense flows of ionizing radiation for research in the field of high energy density physics;
  • Development of compact pulse source of ionizing radiation based on femtosecond laser plasma.
